Chwalinska Races Into Singapore Quarterfinals in 59 Minutes

Maja Chwalinska reached the Singapore Tennis Open quarterfinals on 23 September with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Oleksandra Oliynykova in 59 minutes. The fifth seed has yet to drop a set at the WTA 500 event. The score establishes a one-sided second-round result, though the next match poses a different test.

The Polish player converted six of eight break-point chances and lost only eight points in the opening set, according to the WTA’s match account. Across the match she dropped 20 points and committed seven unforced errors. Oliynykova converted her only break chance in the second set but could not sustain a recovery. Chwalinska had also beaten her at a WTA 125 event earlier in the year.

This is Chwalinska’s third WTA-level quarterfinal of 2026, following Cluj-Napoca and Roland Garros, where she ultimately finished runner-up. The Singapore result is another sign that her strong season has translated to a hard-court tournament, but a dominant score in one match cannot settle how she will fare against the next opponent.

She is due to face Elise Mertens in the last eight. Mertens advanced after Barbora Krejcikova withdrew from their second-round meeting with a lower back injury, the WTA said. Chwalinska won their previous meeting at the French Open this year. That earlier result and Wednesday’s form give context for the quarterfinal, while the change of surface and tournament stage leave a fresh contest to play.
