How many players can teams buy?
The five franchises have 27 places to fill: 20 for Indian players and seven for overseas players. The auction pool contains 119 Indian players—22 capped and 97 uncapped—and 27 overseas players. Six of the overseas entrants are from Associate Nations.
That means appearing on the auction list does not guarantee a WPL contract. Teams can bid according to their remaining squad places and budgets, and a player’s final price can rise above her base price.
When and where is the WPL auction?
The auction is scheduled for Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at the Grand Hyatt Kochi in Kerala. It is due to begin at 5:30 p.m. IST. The resulting squads will be for WPL 2027, which is scheduled to run from January 14 to February 7, 2027.
UP Warriorz had the largest remaining purse, ₹3.65 crore, when the retention list was announced in September. Tara Norris subsequently moved from UP Warriorz to Mumbai Indians in an October trade, so the earlier retention figures should not be treated as a final, post-trade breakdown of each team’s auction position.
