New Pride and Prejudice Series Sets December 3 Premiere, Reveals Bennet Cast

A new television adaptation of Pride and Prejudice is due to premiere on December 3, with its first character images offering a clearer view of the Bennet family and their circle. Writer Dolly Alderton presented the first look at the Jane Austen Festival in Bath, putting a firm release date alongside the announced cast.

Emma Corrin plays Elizabeth Bennet, with Freya Mavor as Jane. Olivia Colman and Rufus Sewell portray their parents, Mrs. and Mr. Bennet. Jack Lowden takes the role of Fitzwilliam Darcy, while Daryl McCormack plays Charles Bingley. The wider family includes Hollie Avery as Kitty, Rhea Norwood as Lydia and Hopey Parish as Mary; Jamie Demetriou is Mr. Collins and Louis Partridge plays George Wickham.

The first-look material is useful because Austen’s story depends on a network of family expectations, social rank and mistaken judgments, not simply on Elizabeth and Darcy as a pair. The announced ensemble shows which relationships this version is putting before viewers. Yet photographs cannot establish how much of the novel the series retains, how it handles its tone or whether familiar scenes are changed. Those remain questions for the finished episodes.

Alderton has described rereading the book at different stages of life and seeing its female characters differently. That perspective may shape the adaptation, but it is more honest to treat it as a creative intention than as a review of an unseen series. Readers can compare the performances and writing for themselves after release.
