Anisimova Withdraws From Singapore, Opening a New Route Through the Draw

Amanda Anisimova has withdrawn from the Singapore Tennis Open because of a left wrist injury, the WTA said on 22 September. The American was the No. 2 seed at the WTA 500 event and had a first-round bye, so her exit changes a section of the draw before her first match there.

Anisimova had been due to meet Australia’s Talia Gibson in the second round. Lucky loser Viktoria Morvayova takes her place and will face Gibson instead. A lucky loser enters the main draw after losing in qualifying when a vacancy arises; the substitution gives Morvayova another opportunity but does not imply that she has inherited Anisimova’s seeding or results.

The WTA reported that Anisimova’s previous match was a third-round defeat to Anastasia Potapova at the US Open last month. It listed her 2026 tour record at 22 wins and 12 losses. The withdrawal concerns this tournament; no timetable for her return was announced in the WTA update, so a broader prognosis would be premature.

For the remaining players, the immediate consequence is tactical rather than a guaranteed easier passage. Gibson now prepares for a different opponent, while Morvayova moves into a main-draw match on short notice. Elsewhere in Tuesday’s play, Xinyu Wang beat eighth seed Donna Vekic 6-1, 6-2. The results and the altered draw will determine how this part of the Singapore event develops.
