New Delhi to Host BRICS Theatre Festival From October 12 to 14
New Delhi will host a three-day BRICS Theatre Festival from October 12 to 14, India’s Ministry of Culture announced on September 24. The event, part of India’s 2026 BRICS presidency, is expected to bring together more than 100 theatre practitioners, scholars, students and cultural representatives from nine member and partner countries.
Under the theme “Shared Stories, Shared Futures,” the festival will include classical, contemporary and experimental productions, as well as workshops and discussions on acting, direction and stagecraft. The National School of Drama will serve as the organising agency and host the opening on October 12. Performances are planned at its Abhimanch and Sammukh auditoriums and other New Delhi venues, including Kamani Auditorium, LTG Auditorium and Meghdoot Theatre.
The ministry named participants from India, Thailand, Indonesia, Russia, Vietnam, Iran, South Africa, Kazakhstan and Ethiopia. India is expected to present two productions, while Russia will be represented by two theatre groups.
The festival follows the Bhopal Declaration adopted at an August meeting of BRICS culture ministers, which called for stronger artistic networks and cultural exchange. The announced programme places live performance alongside professional exchanges among theatre makers, giving the participating countries a platform to share distinct traditions and new work.
