India vs West Indies: 1st T20I score
| Team | Score |
|---|---|
| West Indies | 171 all out in 19.1 overs |
| India | 172/2 in 14.4 overs |
Result: India won by eight wickets with 32 balls remaining at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Shreyas Iyer leads India’s rapid chase
Iyer made 102 not out from 43 balls, the decisive innings in a chase India completed before the 15th over ended. Ishan Kishan contributed an unbeaten 37, while opener Abhishek Sharma scored 21. West Indies took only two wickets: Akeal Hosein and Roston Chase claimed one each.
The margin reflects both the speed of India’s scoring and the work done earlier by their bowlers. A target of 172 left West Indies with runs to defend, but Iyer’s innings meant India needed just 88 deliveries to pass it.
Naman Dhir takes three on T20I debut
West Indies captain Shai Hope scored 52 and Sherfane Rutherford made 56, the visitors’ two highest scores. India nevertheless bowled West Indies out with five balls of their innings unused.
Naman Dhir, playing his first T20 international, returned figures of 3 for 31. Axar Patel took 2 for 26 and Kuldeep Yadav took 2 for 33. Dhir had made his ODI debut during the preceding one-day series and was added to India’s T20I squad after Washington Sundar withdrew.
Hope and Rutherford’s half-centuries kept West Indies in the contest during the first innings, but the wickets taken by Dhir, Axar and Kuldeep prevented them from batting through their allotted 20 overs. Roston Chase later took a wicket during India’s chase, although West Indies could not slow Iyer enough to extend the match into its closing overs.
When is the next IND vs WI T20 match?
India and West Indies meet again in Ranchi on October 9, 2026. The remaining T20Is are scheduled for Indore on October 11, Hyderabad on October 14 and Bengaluru on October 17. India need two more wins from the four remaining matches to secure the series.
The T20Is follow a three-match ODI series that India won 2–1. West Indies won the final ODI on October 3, but India took the first opportunity to move ahead in the shorter-format series with their Lucknow victory.
