IndiGo fuel charges from October 6: New domestic rates, international fees and what actually costs more

A new IndiGo domestic booking made from October 6, 2026, includes a fuel charge of ₹375 to ₹1,300 per flight sector, depending on distance. That is ₹100 to ₹350 more than the previous fuel charge—not an entirely new ₹375–₹1,300 increase. International bookings carry revised charges ranging from ₹1,000 on short SAARC-region routes to ₹10,000 on European routes.

The booking date is the key cutoff. IndiGo said the revised rates apply to new bookings from 00:01 India time on October 6. A ticket bought before that cutoff is not subject to the new fuel-charge schedule simply because the flight departs later.

IndiGo domestic fuel charges: October 6 rates

The charge follows the distance of each domestic flight sector. The table shows both the amount included in a new booking and the increase over IndiGo’s previous schedule:

Flight distance Previous charge Charge from October 6 Increase
Up to 500 km ₹275 ₹375 ₹100
501–1,000 km ₹400 ₹600 ₹200
1,001–1,500 km ₹600 ₹900 ₹300
1,501–2,000 km ₹800 ₹1,150 ₹350
More than 2,000 km ₹950 ₹1,300 ₹350

For example, the fuel-charge component on a newly booked flight in the 501–1,000 km slab is ₹600, rather than the previous ₹400. The ₹200 difference describes the change in that component; it does not guarantee that the final ticket price will be exactly ₹200 higher than a fare quoted before October 6. Base fares and other charges can also change.

IndiGo international fuel charge by destination

For new international bookings, IndiGo’s October 6 schedule uses two distance bands for SAARC-region flights and regional charges for other routes:

International route category Fuel charge
SAARC region, up to 500 km ₹1,000
SAARC region, 501 km or more ₹3,000
Southeast Asia ₹5,500
Gulf Cooperation Council and Middle East ₹5,500
North and East Asia ₹5,500
Africa ₹6,000
Europe ₹10,000

These figures are the total fuel-charge amounts under the revised schedule, not the amount by which every international ticket has increased. The earlier international schedule used different regional and distance categories. In particular, ₹10,000 was already the charge for some European routes, so it would be misleading to describe that figure as a ₹10,000 hike.

Do existing IndiGo tickets cost more?

No change to the fuel charge on an already purchased ticket was announced as part of this revision. IndiGo specified that the new schedule applies to new bookings from the October 6 cutoff, regardless of when the passenger flies. If a traveller changes or replaces an existing ticket, they should check the price displayed for that transaction rather than assume the original booking terms will apply to a newly issued itinerary.

For a connecting trip or round trip, look at each flight sector when estimating the fuel component. A domestic outbound sector in the up-to-500 km band, for instance, carries a ₹375 charge under the new schedule; a return sector in the same band carries its own charge. The amount payable for the complete booking still depends on the itinerary, base fare, taxes and any selected extras.

IndiGo announced the revision on October 5, citing a sustained rise in aviation turbine fuel costs. For travellers comparing flights now, the most useful distinction is between the new charge shown in the tables and the increase over the old charge. Check the final booking breakdown for the amount attached to the specific flights you choose.
