New to Streaming the Week of October 9, 2026: What to Watch on Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu and More

Wondering what’s new to streaming this week? For the week of October 5–11, 2026, the biggest U.S. arrivals include Ben Affleck’s thriller Animals on Netflix, Mike Flanagan’s Carrie series on Prime Video, The Housemaid on HBO Max and Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day on Peacock. Hulu, Disney+ and Apple TV also have new picks, with several landing on Friday, October 9.

Netflix: Animals leads the Friday releases

October 9: Affleck directs and stars in Animals as a Los Angeles mayoral candidate whose son is kidnapped. Kerry Washington plays his wife, while Steven Yeun and Gillian Anderson are among the cast drawn into the crisis. It is the week’s choice for viewers who want a tense new movie rather than another series.

Netflix also adds Haunted Hotel season two and Is It Cake? Halloween season two on October 9. Earlier in the week, the service adds the documentary Who Is Martin Mull? on October 7 and the sea-creature thriller Below on October 8.

Prime Video: Mike Flanagan’s Carrie

October 7: Carrie brings Stephen King’s novel to television in a new adaptation from Mike Flanagan. Summer H. Howell plays Carrie White, a student dealing with a difficult home life, cruelty at school and emerging telekinetic powers. Samantha Sloyan plays her mother, Margaret. If you are looking for a new horror series to start over the weekend, this is Prime Video’s major release.

Hulu and Disney+: Comedy, horror and family viewing

October 6–10: Hulu starts the week with the three-episode season-four premiere of the legal drama Reasonable Doubt on October 6. Jamie Foxx’s special Take Care of Yourself follows on October 7, Abbott Elementary season six arrives on October 8, and the horror film Hokum joins the service on October 10.

For something lighter, Benefits with Friends season two arrives on both Disney+ and Hulu on October 9, with all episodes available. Disney+ adds the full second season of Vampirina: Teenage Vampire on October 7, plus new Playdate with Winnie the Pooh shorts on October 9. Availability across the Disney+ and Hulu apps can depend on your subscription.

HBO Max, Peacock and Apple TV: Three October 9 movies

HBO Max: The Housemaid begins streaming October 9. Sydney Sweeney plays a woman who takes a live-in job with a wealthy family, only to discover that the household is not what it seems. Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar also star in the thriller, directed by Paul Feig. HBO Max adds season two of Rage (Furia) the same day, with episodes released weekly.

Peacock: Spielberg’s sci-fi mystery Disclosure Day arrives October 9. Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor lead a cast that also includes Colin Firth and Colman Domingo. Its story follows an extraordinary event during a live broadcast and a wider search for the truth about extraterrestrial life.

Apple TV: John Cena stars in Matchbox The Movie, an action adventure about an undercover agent whose return pulls his old friends into an international chase. It premieres October 9. Apple TV also adds Small Prophets on October 7, a six-episode comedy starring Pearce Quigley and Michael Palin about a man hoping that magical beings can answer a deeply personal question.

For a quick choice: start with Animals or The Housemaid for a thriller, Carrie for a horror series, Disclosure Day for sci-fi, or Matchbox The Movie for action. Release dates and catalogs can differ outside the United States.
