Podcast Transcripts: How to Find Them and Check What Was Said

A podcast transcript turns spoken audio into readable text, making it easier to revisit an idea or find a passage. Availability depends on the show and listening platform. When you need an exact quote, a name or a number, use the transcript to locate the moment and then listen to the original audio.

Where to look for a transcript

Start with the episode page and the player’s Now Playing view. Spotify supports podcast transcripts in its Now Playing experience, but that does not mean every episode has one.

If no transcript appears, check the show’s own episode page. Some publishers provide text separately. A missing feature in one app does not establish that a transcript exists nowhere else.

Use timestamps as navigation aids

A timestamp can help you return to the point where a topic begins. Listen a little before and after the highlighted sentence so you understand the question and the speaker’s answer.

For example, a guest might repeat an incorrect claim before explaining why it is wrong. Copying only the first sentence would reverse the meaning even if the words were transcribed perfectly.

Check the details most likely to matter

Pay particular attention to names, unfamiliar technical terms, dates, amounts and short negatives such as “not.” These details can change the meaning of an otherwise readable passage.

A useful note records the episode title, speaker and approximate timestamp alongside the checked wording. That makes it easier to verify the passage again without replaying the whole show.

A translated transcript adds another step

Some Spotify shows offer translated transcripts. Translation can make a discussion accessible, but a translated sentence is not necessarily the exact wording spoken in the original language.

When wording matters, identify whether you are reading the original transcript or a translation. Avoid presenting your own paraphrase as a direct quotation.

What creators can check

Where Spotify for Creators makes transcripts available, creators can download a transcript, correct it and upload the revised file. Supported uploads use VTT or SRT, with timestamps needed for synchronized playback. The feature is not available to every creator.

Review the uploaded result around names and important claims. A transcript serves readers best when it preserves meaning and context, rather than merely producing a long page of text.
