Heavy Rain Alerts Issued for Karnataka and Kerala as Bay System Develops

Weather authorities have issued heavy-rain warnings for parts of Karnataka and Kerala as a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to strengthen during the coming days.

Karnataka is forecast to receive widespread rain over a three-day period. An orange alert has been issued for the state, with a red alert for coastal districts where isolated very heavy rainfall is possible. South Interior Karnataka is also expected to see periods of intense rain.

In Kerala, yellow alerts have been announced for several districts between September 23 and 25. The affected areas include districts in the south and north of the state, with isolated rainfall in the heavy category possible during a 24-hour period.

Fishing restrictions have been announced for the Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep coasts because of rough weather and strong winds. Fishers have been advised to follow local maritime warnings before entering the sea.

The rain is linked to a developing system over the Bay of Bengal and comes as the southwest monsoon begins withdrawing from parts of India. Forecast conditions can change as the system moves and strengthens.

Residents in vulnerable areas should follow district-level advisories, avoid flooded roads and monitor official weather updates. Local administrations may issue more specific warnings as rainfall bands approach the coast and interior districts.
