Iva Jovic Defends Guadalajara Open Title With Straight-Sets Victory

Iva Jovic has successfully defended her Guadalajara Open title, defeating fellow American Peyton Stearns 6-4, 6-2 in the final.

The opening set stayed on serve through eight games before the second seed earned the first break for a 5-4 lead. Jovic then served out the set after 46 minutes and carried that momentum into the second.

She broke Stearns in the opening game of the second set, moved ahead 2-0 and added another break for 5-2. A backhand winner on her third championship point completed the victory before rain arrived during the trophy ceremony.

Jovic completed the tournament without dropping a set and did not face a break point in the final. The result gives the 18-year-old her second consecutive Guadalajara crown and the second WTA Tour singles title of her career.

The Guadalajara Open is a WTA 500 event played on outdoor hard courts in Zapopan, Mexico. Jovic’s successful title defence strengthens her position among the youngest players near the top of the women’s rankings.
