West Indies Women’s Zimbabwe Tour Tests Depth Across ODIs and T20Is
West Indies Women begin a six-match tour of Zimbabwe on 24 September, with three one-day internationals followed by three T20 internationals. The first bilateral series between the teams across formats gives the visitors a chance to test younger players while pursuing points in the ICC Women’s Championship.
Cricket West Indies has named a 15-player squad. Eboni Brathwaite replaces Deandra Dottin, who has been granted personal leave for the tour. Chinelle Henry returns after an injury during the Women’s T20 World Cup and replaces Qiana Joseph. Captain Hayley Matthews is due to lead the ODI side, then take personal leave before the T20Is; the squad will be reduced to 14 for that leg. These changes mean the two parts of the tour will test different combinations.
The three ODIs are scheduled for 24, 27 and 30 September at Harare Sports Club. The T20Is follow on 3, 5 and 7 October at Takashinga Cricket Club. West Indies arrive after a 3-0 ODI sweep in Ireland and stand fifth in the current Women’s Championship table with four wins from nine matches. Zimbabwe are tenth after six defeats in the cycle, according to the ICC.
Those standings provide context but do not decide this series. The visitors must adapt to unfamiliar conditions and a Zimbabwe side playing at home. Coach Shane Deitz has described the tour as an opportunity for younger squad members to establish themselves. The ODIs also carry championship significance, while the later T20Is create a separate selection question once Matthews departs. The sequence offers a clearer measure of squad depth than a single result would.
