Taylor Swift Named First Recipient of Artist-Director Honour at 2026 VMAs

Taylor Swift will become the first recipient of a newly created artist-director honour at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.

The award recognises musicians whose work behind the camera has contributed to music-video production and visual storytelling. Organisers said the distinction is intended to honour a sustained directorial voice rather than a single video.

Swift has been nominated seven times for the event’s best-director category and has won it four times. Her directing work includes music videos and short-form films such as Anti-Hero and All Too Well: The Short Film.

The singer-songwriter has also won 14 Grammy Awards, including four album-of-the-year honours. She enters this year’s ceremony with nominations in several competitive categories in addition to the special recognition.

The 2026 awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on 27 September. The announcement confirms the special honour ahead of the event; the results of the competitive categories have not yet been decided.
