Delhi Rooftop Solar Portal Opens a Clearer Route to Applications and Subsidy Checks

Delhi residents seeking rooftop solar can use the government’s solar portal to reach the PM Surya Ghar application route, review subsidy information, check capital-subsidy status and find vendor guidance. The portal was in operation on September 23 following a renewed registration push this week. An application is only an early step: approval, installation, inspection and subsidy release are separate stages.

The Delhi Department of Power portal brings several pieces of the process together. Its citizens’ section provides an application option, a subsidy-status check and a grievance route. It also sets out different adoption models, including arrangements relevant to households with limited roof space or capital. The details of a project depend on the household’s connection, building and selected scheme.

For the central PM Surya Ghar subsidy, the portal lists ₹30,000 per kilowatt for the first two kilowatts and ₹18,000 for the next kilowatt, with a ₹78,000 cap for larger systems. That is a subsidy schedule, not a promise that every applicant will receive the maximum. The government’s vendor guidance says households seeking the central subsidy must choose a vendor empanelled on the national scheme portal.

The practical difference for a resident is the ability to compare the route before committing to an installer. Checking a vendor’s status, roof suitability, expected generation and the financing model can matter as much as the advertised subsidy. A rooftop installation also needs to move through the relevant distribution company and metering process before savings can be assessed from actual electricity use.

The portal displayed an application tally updated September 23, but applications should not be read as completed solar systems. Residents can use the official process to follow their own status and confirm current eligibility and terms before making a payment or signing a contract.
