Google Vids Opens Free AI Video Creation With Gemini Omni 1.1
Google is opening AI video generation in Google Vids to anyone with a Google or Google Workspace account at no cost, using its Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash model. The company announced the expanded access on September 23 alongside controls for scene length, transitions and high-definition output.
Users can start from the Vids desktop creation menu and select “Create AI videos.” Google says Omni 1.1 can generate new scenes in 1080p, extend scenes while maintaining visual continuity and upscale existing clips for use on a timeline. Templates and ordinary editing tools remain available for assembling a finished video.
Google says every AI-generated clip made with the model carries an imperceptible SynthID watermark, designed to identify generated content. The watermark is embedded in the frames rather than displayed as an on-screen label.
The company also outlined a forthcoming Gemini 3.8 Flash-Lite text-to-speech feature for typed voiceovers in more than 100 languages. That narration feature is described as coming soon, so it should not be confused with the video creation controls available now. Google says personal accounts can obtain more AI-generation access through paid plans, while business and enterprise Workspace plans provide larger generation pools and administrative controls.
