IndiGo fuel surcharges from October 6: Charges by route, not a fixed fare increase
IndiGo’s revised fuel surcharges take effect at 12:01 a.m. on October 6, 2026, for new bookings on its domestic and international flights. The domestic charge will be ₹375 to ₹1,300 per flight sector, depending on distance; international charges will range from ₹1,000 to ₹10,000, depending on the route. The change is tied to when a ticket is booked, not when the passenger flies. A ticket already booked before the change is not subject to this surcharge revision.
The figures are fuel charges, not complete ticket prices or guaranteed increases in the final amount payable. Travelers comparing flights should look at the full price at checkout, including the base fare, taxes, other applicable charges and any optional extras.
Domestic charges by flight distance
For a domestic IndiGo flight, the revised fuel charge for each sector is:
| Flight distance | Fuel charge |
|---|---|
| Up to 500 km | ₹375 |
| 501–1,000 km | ₹600 |
| 1,001–1,500 km | ₹900 |
| 1,501–2,000 km | ₹1,150 |
| More than 2,000 km | ₹1,300 |
These replace domestic fuel charges of ₹275, ₹400, ₹600, ₹800 and ₹950 in the same respective distance bands. The change in the fuel-charge component is therefore ₹100 for a flight of up to 500 km, ₹200 for 501–1,000 km, ₹300 for 1,001–1,500 km, and ₹350 for either of the two longest bands. Those differences are useful for understanding the revision, but they should not be read as a promise that every ticket’s final price will rise by exactly that amount.
International charges by region
On international IndiGo routes, the announced fuel charge depends primarily on the destination region. For flights within the SAARC grouping, the charge is ₹1,000 on routes up to 500 km and ₹3,000 on routes longer than 500 km. The announced charge is ₹5,500 for Southeast Asia, the Gulf Cooperation Council and Middle East region, and North and East Asia. It is ₹6,000 for Africa and ₹10,000 for Europe.
Travelers heading to Greece or Turkey should note that the announced European charge is ₹10,000. Under IndiGo’s earlier structure, those destinations had a separate ₹7,500 fuel charge, while the charge for the rest of Europe was already ₹10,000. International passengers should check the region assigned to their particular itinerary rather than assume that every flight outside India carries the same amount.
Who is affected, and what should you check?
The revision affects passengers making new IndiGo bookings from the October 6 start time, including people booking now for travel on a later date. It does not mean passengers with existing tickets must pay the difference solely because their flight departs after October 6. Anyone considering a change to an existing reservation should check the price and applicable terms shown for that change before confirming it.
Before paying, inspect the fare breakdown for each flight sector, particularly if the trip includes a connection or a return journey. The surcharge is assessed by sector, so the amount shown for one flight should not automatically be treated as the charge for an entire multi-flight itinerary. Check the route’s distance band or international region, the number of passengers and sectors, and the final payable amount after taxes and selected extras are included.
IndiGo says the revision responds to higher aviation turbine fuel costs. That explains why the airline changed this particular charge; it does not fix the base fare or determine the overall price of every available seat. For a practical comparison, use the checkout total for the same dates, route, baggage needs and other options—not the fuel surcharge in isolation.
