Neeru’s trap gold leads India’s September 29 Asian Games results
AICHI-NAGOYA, Japan, September 29, 2026: Neeru Dhanda turned India’s busiest Asian Games day into a landmark one, winning the women’s individual trap title after helping the shooting team claim silver. Gulveer Singh added bronze in the men’s 5,000 metres, and two Indian boxers advanced to gold-medal bouts as competition continued across the venues on Tuesday.
These results and the remaining schedule reflect developments through approximately 5:25 p.m. Indian Standard Time. Several athletics finals were still in progress or due to begin, so the day’s medal picture was not yet complete.
Neeru wins gold after team silver
Neeru hit 28 of 30 targets in the women’s trap final to take gold, becoming the first Indian woman to win an individual Asian Games title in the event. Her final score set an Asian record and capped a day that had already brought a medal for India at the shooting range.
Earlier, Neeru, Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer combined for silver in the women’s trap team competition, scoring 328. The team event is decided by the shooters’ combined qualification scores; Neeru then progressed to the separate individual final. That distinction made her two-medal day especially striking: the trio secured India’s first confirmed medal of Tuesday before Neeru returned to win the individual title.
India did not reach the podium in the men’s trap events. Shapath Bharadwaj qualified for the individual final but finished eighth, while the team of Bharadwaj, Kynan Chenai and Ahvar Rizvi placed sixth. The trap programme continues on Wednesday, September 30, with a mixed-team event.
Gulveer collects a third medal
On the track, Gulveer Singh finished third in the men’s 5,000m in 13 minutes, 32.75 seconds. The bronze followed his silver medals in the 10,000m and 1,500m, giving the distance runner a medal in each of his three events at these Games.
Avinash Sable, also entered in the 5,000m, did not start the final. Elsewhere in athletics, Dev Kumar Meena cleared 5.50m in the men’s pole vault, a personal best and national record, but missed the medal places. Pooja Olla finished seventh in the women’s 800m, and Mohammed Afsal placed eighth in the men’s 800m.
India’s evening athletics opportunities were not over. Pooja Singh remained in contention in the women’s high jump as the bar rose, while the women’s hammer throw and the relay finals were also on the closing-day programme. The mixed 4x100m relay brought India a bronze shortly after 5:15 p.m. IST. The women’s and men’s 4x400m finals were scheduled for later in the evening and should not yet be counted among Tuesday’s results.
Boxing finalists and knockout progress
Boxing supplied two more chances at gold. Parveen Hooda beat China’s Li Shu in the women’s 65kg semifinal, while Ankush Panghal defeated Uzbekistan’s Fazliddin Erkinboev in the men’s 80kg semifinal. Both advanced to their respective finals. Narender took bronze in the men’s over-90kg class after losing his semifinal to Kazakhstan’s Aibek Oralbay.
India also moved forward in several events that will be decided on later dates. The women’s squash team beat Iran 3-0 in its final group match to reach the quarterfinals. Recurve archers Dhiraj Bommadevara and Neeraj Chauhan advanced to the men’s individual quarterfinals scheduled for October 3, with Chauhan beating South Korea’s Kim Je-deok in the round of 16.
In tennis, Sumit Nagal and Dhakshineswar Suresh won their men’s singles second-round matches. Suresh also progressed in doubles alongside Yuki Bhambri. Those wins did not add medals on Tuesday, but they kept Indian entries alive as the Games move into another set of knockout rounds.
For India, the defining performance so far is Neeru’s: team silver followed by an individual gold in the same discipline. Gulveer’s third podium finish and the boxing results have broadened the day’s story, while the late relay finals leave room for the medal count to change again.
