What’s New in ChatGPT Today? Interactive Answers Start Rolling Out to Free and Go Users
What’s new in ChatGPT today, October 8, 2026? OpenAI says its new Intelligent UI can turn some answers into interactive diagrams, side-by-side comparisons, calculators, bill splitters and games that work inside a chat. The rollout began on October 7 for Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users. It starts expanding to Free and Go users on October 8, so people on those plans may not see it immediately.
What changes in a ChatGPT answer?
Instead of putting every response into paragraphs of text, ChatGPT can choose a format that fits the question. A comparison might appear side by side; an explanation could include a diagram whose inputs you can change. An answer may also contain charts, buttons or forms you can use without leaving the conversation. Simple questions can still get simple text answers.
OpenAI calls this capability Intelligent UI and is introducing it with GPT-6 in the Chat tab. The company says responses can begin appearing while ChatGPT continues working, with further findings added to the answer as they become ready. That describes when an answer starts to appear, not a guarantee that every task will finish faster.
How do I use ChatGPT’s new calculator?
Ask for the tool you need in an ordinary chat. For example, you could ask ChatGPT to make a calculator that shows how changing a monthly savings amount affects a projected total, or to create a bill splitter for a group meal. If Intelligent UI is available on your account and ChatGPT uses it for that request, you may get controls to adjust the figures directly in the conversation.
There is no requirement to use a special command: ChatGPT can decide when an interactive format is useful. You can also ask for a particular presentation, such as a diagram or comparison. The result will depend on the question, and asking for a calculator does not guarantee a specific layout every time.
Is the interactive feature free?
Free users are included in the announced rollout. OpenAI’s October 7 release notes say access starts expanding to Free and Go on October 8. Go is a paid subscription plan; it should not be confused with Free. Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise were the first plans in the global rollout, which began October 7. These are rollout start dates, not dates by which every eligible account is guaranteed to have the feature.
The plans also use different versions of GPT-6 for everyday chat: OpenAI lists GPT-6 Luna for Free and Go, and GPT-6 Sol for Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise. Both support Intelligent UI. OpenAI says the feature has no separate usage quota, although existing plan, model and tool limits still apply.
Where should I look if I do not see it?
Try the regular Chat experience on the web or in an updated supported app. OpenAI says Intelligent UI is not available in the Work tab or Voice, and the Pro reasoning option does not support it. Older ChatGPT desktop apps for macOS and Windows do not support these capabilities; OpenAI advises using the web instead. Enterprise access can also depend on workspace administrator settings.
If your answers still look like ordinary text, that alone does not show anything is wrong. ChatGPT may choose text for a particular question, and the staged rollout may not have reached your account yet. Asking for an interactive comparison or a calculator in Chat is a more useful way to check than expecting every response to change.
