Six golds across four sports
The women’s hockey final delivered India’s last gold of the day. Lalremsiami scored against China in the 10th minute, and goalkeeper Savita saved a Chinese penalty stroke as India held on for a 1-0 win. It was India’s first women’s hockey gold at the Asian Games since 1982. The victory also secured the team a place at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
In the boxing ring, Borgohain beat China’s Bao Ziyi by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the women’s 75kg final. Parveen edged Chinese Taipei’s Chen Nien-chin 3-2 in the women’s 65kg final, while Ankush defeated South Korea’s Kim Minseong in the men’s 80kg final. All three Indians contesting those finals left with gold.
Sujeet’s wrestling final was much closer. Trailing Tajikistan’s Abdulmazhid Kudiev 9-2 in the men’s freestyle 65kg bout, he recovered to win 10-9. Earlier, he had beaten Japan’s Olympic champion Kotaro Kiyooka in the semifinal.
Archery supplied another gold and both of India’s silvers. Bhakat, Sharma and Mohod defeated South Korea 5-3 to win India’s first Asian Games gold in the women’s recurve team event. Mohod then joined Bommadevara for the mixed-team final, where they lost 5-3 to China. Bommadevara also competed in the men’s recurve team final alongside Chauhan and Bhoge; South Korea won that match 5-1, leaving India with silver.
How the tally reached 76
Two bronze medals completed India’s October 2 haul. Kumanan reached the podium in the women’s dinghy sailing event. In sepaktakraw, the men’s quadrant team lost its semifinal to host Japan but secured bronze. These results brought the day’s count to six gold, two silver and two bronze—10 medals in all.
India finished October 2 with 16 golds, 25 silvers and 35 bronzes. The 76-medal figure is an end-of-day update, not the final total for the Games: competition in Aichi-Nagoya continues beyond October 2.
