Endgame Encore Outpaces The Vvaan on Day 2 With Higher Occupancy
Avengers: Endgame Encore emerged as the stronger of two closely watched releases on Saturday, September 26, using concentrated audience demand to outperform The Vvaan – Force of the Forrest on their second day at the Indian box office.
Provisional figures available at about 10 p.m. IST placed Endgame Encore at an estimated ₹8.15 crore gross and ₹6.91 crore net in India for Day 2. The re-release recorded overall occupancy of approximately 22.3% from 3,763 shows across 1,224 theatres, with about 266,000 tickets tracked.
The Vvaan, meanwhile, was estimated to have collected ₹5.17 crore gross and ₹4.38 crore net on Saturday. Its occupancy stood near 12.3%, with roughly 134,000 tickets tracked across 4,879 shows in 923 theatres.
The comparison gives the Marvel re-release an estimated gross advantage of ₹2.98 crore for the day. Its occupancy was also 10 percentage points higher, despite The Vvaan having more scheduled shows in the available tracking. That combination is significant because it indicates that demand for Endgame Encore was more concentrated, allowing it to generate about 58% more gross revenue than the new Hindi release.
A reversal from opening day
The Vvaan had started ahead on Friday, earning an estimated ₹7.80 crore net and ₹9.20 crore gross. Saturday tracking represented a decline of about 44% from that opening-day gross, although late evening and night shows could still affect reconciled totals.
Endgame Encore followed a different trajectory. After an estimated opening of nearly ₹7 crore gross on Friday, its Saturday business climbed to approximately ₹8.15 crore. The increase suggests that the re-release benefited from weekend availability, group bookings and fans choosing Saturday for a return visit to the 2019 blockbuster.
Across their first two days, the preliminary net totals stood at approximately ₹14.36 crore for Endgame Encore and ₹12.18 crore for The Vvaan. Final producer or distributor figures may differ from live theatrical estimates.
Why the re-release is competing like a new film
The performance of Endgame Encore is not being driven by nostalgia alone. Its return has been positioned as a theatrical event connected to the next phase of the Avengers franchise, with selected premium screenings offering additional material associated with Avengers: Doomsday. The film is also playing in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, widening its reach across major Indian markets.
Premium formats provide another advantage. IMAX and other large-format screenings generally carry higher ticket prices, meaning Endgame Encore can produce a larger gross without needing to match the show volume of a conventional wide release. Its seven-year-old story is already familiar, but the large-screen presentation, franchise anticipation and promise of extra content give audiences a fresh reason to buy a ticket.
The Vvaan is competing from a different position. The Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia-led fantasy thriller offers new material rooted in folklore, a forbidden forest and supernatural conflict. As a fresh Hindi title receiving nationwide distribution, it must build momentum through reviews, word of mouth and walk-in audiences rather than relying on an established global fan base.
Sunday becomes the key test
The Saturday numbers underline a changing theatrical marketplace in which a familiar blockbuster can take on a new Indian release for screens, premium auditoriums and weekend spending. Occupancy is especially important: the Marvel title filled a noticeably larger share of available seats while working with fewer shows.
Sunday will reveal whether The Vvaan can recover through family and evening audiences or whether Endgame Encore continues to widen the gap. The re-release has already demonstrated that carefully timed franchise programming is no longer merely supplementary business. With the right format, added material and release window, an older film can return as a direct box-office rival to a major new title.
