Which Chennai Metro Phase 2 stations open on October 11? Poonamallee–Vadapalani stops and train timings
Eleven Chennai Metro Phase 2 stations are scheduled to open to passengers on Sunday, October 11, 2026, along the Poonamallee Bypass–Vadapalani stretch of the Yellow Line. Trains are due to run from 4 pm to 9 pm on opening day. The inauguration is scheduled for October 11; it has not yet taken place.
Which stations are included?
The initial passenger stops, listed from Poonamallee Bypass toward Vadapalani, are:
- Poonamallee Bypass
- Poonamallee Bus Stand
- Poonamallee Government Hospital
- Karayanchavadi
- Kumananchavadi
- Kattupakkam
- Iyyappanthangal
- Thelliyaragaram
- Porur Bypass
- Porur Junction
- Vadapalani
Trains are scheduled to operate in both directions. Some project materials use different names or spellings for individual stations, so passengers should follow the names displayed at the stations when travelling.
Which stations will trains skip?
The 11-stop list does not mean that every planned station between the two terminals will open on October 11. Trains will initially travel between Porur Junction and Vadapalani without stopping at six stations on that section: Alapakkam, Karambakkam, Valasaravakkam, Alwarthirunagar, Saligramam and Avichi School. Travellers heading to those areas should not plan to board or leave a train there when service begins. An opening date for those stops has not been confirmed in the initial passenger timetable.
When do the new Chennai Metro trains run?
On Sunday, October 11, the announced operating window is 4 pm to 9 pm. From Monday, October 12, the new stretch is scheduled to run from 7 am to 9 pm daily, with the last trains departing Poonamallee Bypass and Vadapalani at 9 pm.
Under the regular Monday-to-Saturday timetable, trains are scheduled every 10 minutes during the morning peak, from 8 am to 11 am, and the evening peak, from 5 pm to 8 pm. They are scheduled every 15 minutes during the remaining operating hours. On Sundays and public holidays, the regular timetable calls for a train every 15 minutes from 7 am to 9 pm. The shorter opening-day service window is an exception to those normal Sunday hours.
How does the Poonamallee–Vadapalani route connect?
The approximately 15-kilometre elevated section is part of Chennai Metro Phase 2’s Corridor 4, known as the Yellow Line. It links the Poonamallee area with Iyyappanthangal and Porur before reaching Vadapalani. At Vadapalani, passengers can connect with the existing Phase 1 Green Line for onward journeys. Travellers making that change should allow time to follow the interchange signs, particularly during the line’s first days of operation.
The October 11 launch covers this section, not the whole Phase 2 network. For a trip on the new line, the key checks are whether the intended station appears on the 11-stop list and whether the journey falls within the shorter Sunday opening window or the regular timetable beginning October 12.
